چکیده

To improve the throughput performance keeping high reliable broadcasting, we propose an efficient Medium Access Control protocol for broadcasting in wireless ad-hoc networks with IEEE 802.11. In the proposed protocol, to reduce the number of retransmissions, a broadcast packet is retransmitted according to NACK instead of ACK. Moreover, the broadcast packet is retransmitted only to the area including nodes that request retransmission by using directional antennas. By computer simulations, we show that the proposed protocol can improve throughput performance keeping high reliable broadcasting compared with the BACK protocol. Especially, the proposed protocol 2 achieves the high throughput of 6, keeping the high success rate of data packet reception of approximately 0.7.

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Simulation study for Mobile Ad hoc Networks Using DMAC Protocol

This paper addresses the issue of deafness problem in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) using directional antennas. Directional antennas are beneficial for wireless ad hoc networks consisting of a collection of wireless hosts. A suitable Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol must be designed to best utilize directional antennas. Deafness is caused when two nodes are in ongoing transmission and a t...

Medium Access Control Protocols using Directional Antennas in Ad Hoc Networks

Using directional antennas can be beneficial for wireless ad hoc networks consisting of a collection of wireless hosts. To best utilize directional antennas, a suitable Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol must be designed. Current MAC protocols, such as the IEEE 802.11 standard, do not benefit when using directional antennas, because these protocols have been designed for omnidirectional anten...

Power-controlled medium access for ad hoc networks with directional antennas

Directional antennas have the potential to significantly improve the throughput of a wireless ad hoc network. At the same time, energy consumption can be considerably reduced if the network implements per-packet transmission power control. Typical MAC protocols for ad hoc networks (e.g., the IEEE 802.11 Ad Hoc mode) were designed for wireless devices with omnidirectional antennas. When used wit...

A MAC protocol for mobile ad hoc networks using directional antennas

We propose a medium access control (MAC) protocol for an ad hoc network of mobile wireless terminals that are equipped with multiple directional antennas. Use of directional antennas in ad hoc networks can largely reduce the radio interference, thereby improving the packet throughput. However, the main problem of using directional antennas in such networks is due to the dynamic nature of the ne...
